Detox is a word that is thrown around all the time in the health and wellness industry. With all of the fads, crash diets, and “quick fixes” out there, it’s tough to navigate a healthy way to detox versus a dangerous detox method.We’ve rounded up some of the worst detox trends to avoid, as well as some healthy methods for detoxing safely, effectively, and tranquilizing in a soothing way!

 First, let’s look at some of the trends that you should avoid at all costs.

Master Cleanse

The Master Cleanse is really well known in the diet world. It’s essentially a 10-day cleanse where you only consume water with lemon, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. This cleanse boasts many benefits such as detoxing, weight loss, and more.In reality, though, your body enters into an unhealthy starvation mode during this 10-day period.

This type of detox can be very damaging and should be avoided at all costs. Fasting is different from starving yourself. I’m not sure about you, but there is no way I could go to work, concentrate, be my bright and shiny self, exercise or even laugh if I haven’t eaten in ten days. Yes, of course, you will lose a few lbs, yet once you begin eating again, you’ll notice the weight back on in no time. 

Some people dislike the feeling of sweating and others find it hard to break a sweat. However, sweating is the most natural way for our bodies to release toxins, water weight, bloat, and detoxify. Are you missing out on these health benefits?

Laxatives 

Laxatives are often found in many products with a “diet” or “detox” label. These types of products are very damaging to your gut and overall digestive health. When purchasing diet products, be extremely careful to avoid anything with laxatives added in. Laxatives are highly harmful to your body.

They dehydrate you and rid your body of all the nutrients you need. A minute percentage of people notice the scales dip slightly after a few days of use, yet this begins to rise again after your body realizes what you’re actually doing to it! While there is so much good information out there on detoxing and cleansing, there is also bad information. We want to see results right, but we need to be cautious!! Many products can aid our detoxes, but we need to be sure of what is actually in the products. Detox teas are fantastic, though some products contain Senna Leaf, which can cause diarrhea, discomfort and dehydration. The same goes for detox supplements. You MUST check what is inside them and read the reviews. We need to know what is going inside our bodies

Many choose to supplement their workouts or even replace one or two workouts a week with a sauna session because of the incredible amount of calories it burns while you’re relaxing.
